This July, we're celebrating Disability Pride Month and the 36th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). In honor of this milestone, we are hosting our annual Day of Giving on Tuesday, July 28, to advance the rights of Virginians with disabilities.

As Virginia’s designated Protection and Advocacy organization, dLCV is committed to serving people with disabilities—regardless of age, background, or diagnosis.

Behind every number is a person, a family, or a community whose life was changed through advocacy.
Protecting Youth Rights
When Andy reported harmful restraint and seclusion in a mental health facility, dLCV investigated and helped bring policy changes that improved care and strengthened protections for future residents.
Changing Systems
Advocacy doesn't stop with one person. This year, dLCV helped advance legislation that strengthens emergency preparedness protections for people with disabilities across Virginia.
A New Beginning
After spending nearly eight years in a state hospital, Veronica transitioned into a home in her community with individualized supports. Today, she is maintaining her recovery and living more independently.
Opening New Doors
When Michael couldn't independently enter and leave his nursing home, dLCV successfully advocated for an automatic door opener. The improvement not only restored Michael's independence but also made the building more accessible for many other residents.
Driving Toward Independence
After being wrongly restricted from driving because of her disability, Ann turned to dLCV for guidance. She learned to advocate for her rights, retook her driving test, earned an unrestricted driver's license, and attended college nearly 50 miles from home.
Crossing the Stage Together
When Ethan's graduation stage wasn't accessible, dLCV advocated for a solution that allowed him to cross the stage alongside his classmates. His parents later wrote, "We never thought we would see this day. You paved a way for his future."
